There has been lots of news this month from Microsoft regarding and relating to .NET 2015/ .NET 5, the next version of .NET, their primary software framework. Lots of it is going open source, some of it was already, which will please some developers, and it is increasingly going cross platform - ASP.NET will be available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Arguably even better for developers there is a new free Visual Studio product option, the Integrated Development Environment for building .NET software, called Visual Studio Community. It is much more capable than the previous distinct Express edition.
