The RUMM project at the University of Glamorgan provides a suite of sophisticated energy analysis tools for business customers. Using state of the art on-site meters a large volume of energy data is captured, transmitted to RUMM's data warehouse and then analysed to recommend energy savings.
Propona has worked with RUMM for the past five years as their business and customer-base has grown substantially; we have been their technical partner for all Microsoft software development.
A big part of RUMM’s service is a website that allows clients to navigate and extract their data and produce rich graphical reports. The website needed to be the online face of RUMM's energy analysis business and required a suite of administration tools to manage security, set up new customers, send messages to customers and configure automated alarming on energy usage.
A single-screen powerful graphing mechanism was created in which any energy data to which a user's security gives access can be graphed and aggregated. Tools for statistical analysis, benchmarking and for quickly comparing energy trends were also provided as were a messaging facility to save and email out graphs and reports.
The solution chosen was also extended so that customers could upload data themselves in spreadsheet format.
The delivered website formed Version 4.0 of RUMM's online energy management offering and was built upon the data import engine that Propona also created in 2007.
