Annual Returns Database - collating University spend data
Project Description
Procureweb (www.procureweb.ac.uk) is a JISC procurement support service, for the UK Higher Education Sector, UK Further Education Sector and Research Councils. Procureweb selected Propona to redevelop an existing system – the Annual Returns Database (ARD) system. This involved the requirements analysis, design and development of a web application utilising a single database to replace the current 5 Microsoft Access/ VBA systems in use.
ARD allows members of the consortia (parent organisations to groups of academic institution) to import data from Excel Spreadsheets provided by member organisations which detail spend data. The application cleanses and validates this data and tries to match supplier details and aggregates spend information and import it into the system from where it can be reported on.
The aims of the system were to increase cost effectiveness and usefulness of the system via:
- greater consistency of data between consortia
- greater automated processing
- pan-consortia reporting
- better software performance
- increased usability of the application UI
- improved availability of data
